Two things are clear: Artificial intelligence is poised to drive the future of business and technology, and Montréal is positioning itself to drive the future of AI research and development. It’s in this context that Element AI, the world’s largest applied AI research lab, will launch the inaugural edition of The AI Forum in partnership with the C2 Montréal international commerce and creativity conference, May 24-26, 2017.
Sparking a creative conversation about AI
The AI Forum provides an opportunity for all types of organizations to begin looking at creative answers to commercial and societal issues through an AI-First lens.
“Every year, leaders from all over the world come to C2 Montréal to shift their perspective and explore new ways of doing business,” says Richard St-Pierre, President of C2. “AI is the next frontier. No matter what industry they are leading, executives must understand the possibilities and learn to navigate these fertile territories. Together, Element AI and C2 will help create new opportunities for those who wish to be at the forefront of the most promising technologies.”
“Artificial Intelligence can only be as smart as the network dedicated to its creation and growth – that’s why Element AI is partnering with C2 this May,” explains software industry entrepreneur, and Element AI co-founder, Jean-François Gagné. “Together, we’re going to bring the best and brightest people in the educational, creative and commercial space for a discussion around Artificial Intelligence and its impact on the world.”
An AI Forum at a creativity conference
Curated by Jean-François Gagné and preeminent AI researcher, deep learning pioneer and Element AI co-founder Yoshua Bengio, The AI Forum will explore the vast capabilities inherent in AI while peering into the future of what may be possible.
During the three days of C2, The AI Forum attendees will have access to dedicated masterclasses and workshops designed to help them dig deeper into specific issues and opportunities with the help of world-leading AI experts. Forum attendees will also have access to experimental brainstorming sessions, innovative connection mechanisms and the world-class celebrations that comprise C2’s signature experience.
The discussion around AI will also be seeping into the general programming of C2 Montréal 2017, which now includes inspiring keynote speeches by experts – including Bengio and Gagné – in C2’s new 360 Big Top, as well as a more in-depth collaborative work session.
“As the AI space advances, it is important to bring together leaders in the scientific, business and political communities in order to find the best ways to promote positive discussion that creates beneficial, meaningful development of these technologies,” says Bengio. “As I think of AI as helping minds, events like C2 enable the best minds to get together and discuss how we all can succeed on a geometric scale.”
AI increasingly means Montréal
With the largest concentration of machine learning researchers in the world, many working in close coordination with Element AI, the city has gained global renown as an innovation hub for artificial intelligence and deep learning research. Montréal’s expanding AI ecosystem is supported by, among others, the Montréal Institute for Learning Algorithms (or MILA, where Bengio is Director), Google (which recently invested $4.5M in MILA), McGill University, Maluuba and Microsoft, whose Ventures fund recently made a substantial investment in Element AI.
“Montréal is fast becoming the innovative center of the universe for AI research and development,” says Gagné, “so joining forces with C2 and their established platform of fostering world-changing ideas will serve to help our community take that next big leap forward.”
C2 Montréal: A business conference, only different
Each year, in a collaborative environment specifically designed to provoke collisions and spark new ideas, C2 Montréal inspires 6,000 decision makers across continents and industries to challenge their biases, shift their perspective and explore completely new ways of doing business. Imagined by Sid Lee and founding partner Cirque du Soleil, these three days of talks, workshops, experimental brainstorming sessions, meet ups, performances and festivities have been described as “challenging conventions” by The Economist, and “a business conference unlike any other” by Harvard Business Review.
C2 Montréal will be presenting its 6th edition on May 24, 25 and 26, 2017, at Arsenal art gallery in Montréal, Canada.
Element AI is the platform that helps organizations embrace an AI-First world for today and tomorrow. Composed of a research lab uniquely connected to the world's best academic ecosystems, Element AI launches and incubates advanced AI-First solutions in partnership with large corporations.
